Oak wood with silver plated brackets and lions head on the side. With key when turned the covers springs open.
Hampton & Sons produced high end furniture in London from 1830 until 1957.
A tantalus is a container to protect the expensive spirits from unwelcome thirsty souls in the form of, for example, servants. They were used both in private homes and aboard ships.
Measures 35.0 by 26.0 by 14.5 cm.
