Egon Mathiesen was a central figure in Danish modernism and is today particularly famous for his groundbreaking and artistic children's books, including classics such as "Osvald the Monkey" and "Bamse's Birthday". His free and playful choice of colors in his paintings and watercolors draws clear threads to the beloved illustrations from the books.
